A Saturday-night party may have led to a bloody hangover for a southeast man in serious but non-life threatening condition in Foothills Hospital after an apparent home invasion.
At about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, police were called to a home invasion at a Deercrest Close SE residence, where a 23-year-old man was stabbed in the arms and legs five times by an unknown intruder who fled on foot.
Ken Cadman, who lives two doors down, called in the incident to police after hearing a profanity-laced commotion in the back-alley and. When he looked outside, he saw the victim, covered in blood, fall against a fence before hitting the ground.
“He was right out of it,” Cadman said. “There was blood all over the place. The guy was incoherent.”
Neighbours said there was a party at the house Saturday night in the usually quiet community and Calgary Police Insp. Paul Stacey believed there may be a connection to the festivities as all four people in the house at the time of the stabbing “were extremely intoxicated and/or stoned.”
Stacey said police don’t believe the attack was gang related, but wouldn’t rule out drugs, and that it wasn’t a random act.
Neighbours also said the house had been empty for months until renters moved in a couple weeks ago and Jody Hammell, who lives in the house right across the back lane, said his relatively new neighbours stood out in the “extremely boring” community.
“They definitely don’t fit into the normal around here,” he said.
