Man steals car with 3-year-old child inside

The NYPD is looking for a man who they say stole a car Saturday afternoon in the Bronx — with a three-year-old boy inside. The owner of the car, a 45-year–old woman, told police she parked her green Honda Odyssey outside the flower shop she owns just after 1 p.m. on Jerome Avenue and got out.

As she walked around the car to the passenger side to get her son, a balding, bespectacled man in his mid-50s jumped into the driver’s seat and started to drive away. The frantic mother tried to stop the car by jumping in front of it, but the alleged thief hit her as he sped off, breaking her leg.

The woman dialed 911 and police canvassed the area; the car was found at about 2 p.m. a few blocks away, abandoned, with the boy still in his car seat. Both mother and child were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was treated for her broken leg and the boy was found to be uninjured.
