Man who nabbed toilet parts faces 24 theft charges

A city man appears in court Monday in relation to a string of thefts in the Ottawa area that occurred over a five-month span.

Police said a suspect entered commercial and private washroom areas located inside various restaurants, shopping malls, hospitals, medical clinics and private sector facilities and removed the electronic and manual flushing mechanisms of the toilets, valued at approximately $100 to $1,000 each.

Robert Morissette, 51, faces 24 counts of each theft under $5,000, mischief and breach of probation.
