On Thursday, March 17 at 11 a.m., New York City will hold its 255th St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The parade will be led by grand marshal Sen. George Mitchell and will start at 44th Street and Fifth Avenue. It will travel up Fifth Avenue and will end at 79th Street. Mayor Bill de Blasio will also be marching in the parade, which he’ll be attending for the first time in two years. Alcohol is not allowed in the parade-watching areas. Anyone displaying public drunkenness will be removed from the parade by NYPD.
There are no pets allowed along the parade route or in reviewing stands.
Just like any other large-scale New York City public events, the NYPD reserves the right to check all backpacks and large bags.

The MTA will provide special service in Manhattan on St. Patrick’s Day.
The Long Island Railroad and Metro North will provide customers with extra trains to help with commuting to and from the parade on Thursday.
Subways
At 77th Street on the 6 line, the NYPD may designate some staircases for entry/exit only on both the uptown and downtown side to help with crowd control.
Buses
The following bus routes will be detoured in the area along the parade route:
M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M31, M42, M50, M57, M66, M72, M79, BxM2, BxM3, BxM4, BxM6, BxM7, BxM8, BxM9, BxM10, BxM11, Q32 and most Staten Island express buses.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels
The MTA advises parade-goers to avoid driving into the city and to take mass transit. They also warn motorists to never drive while drinking. There will be increased police presence at all MTA locations and crossings to combat drunk driving. For more information visit MTA.info
