Maple season

The call of the wild awaits you at the Mountsberg Conservation Area in Campbellville, Ont. Throughout March, you can take in the first taste of spring on a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the bush. While on the tour, a guide will teach you about both traditional and modern methods of maple syrup making. Maple candy making sessions will be available, and the pancake pavilion serves flapjacks covered in pure maple syrup.

The scenic park has extensive wetlands and a meadow as well. There are great hiking and cross-country ski trails, boardwalks, birdfeeders and interpretive lookouts.

While in town, consider fitting in some antiquing. Campbellville is a mecca for interesting shopping, with stores that sell Mennonite furniture and home decor from around the world.

The Mountsberg Conservation Area is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission ranges from free to $6.50. Call 905-854-4358.
