A young New Yorker has challenged New York’s mayor to go head-to-head with the Commander in Chief.

Alvin Javier, 22, was on the J-train Tuesday when he saw Mayor de Blasio on his subway car. Instead of taking a selfie, the Bronx resident shot a video in which he asked the mayor to challenge President Obama to a game of basketball. He later posted the video to Instagram. In the video, Javier says, “Obama! My mayor is going to play you in one-on-one ball. Do you accept?”

The mayor was more than eager to participate.

“I think it’s a great idea,” de Blasio said. “President Obama and I are almost the same age. He has more basketball skills and practices a lot more but I have height.”

If the president accepts, Javier hopes the stakes will be raised.

“If the mayor wins, Obama should pass a bill giving more funding to education,” Javier said when Metro spoke to him Wednesday.

And of course, he wants to be in the stands to watch the showdown.
