Melvin brother appears in court on arson charges

Another member of the infamous Melvin family made an appearance in court Thursday.

Cory Patrick Melvin, the 23-year-old younger brother of Jimmy Melvin Jr., was in Nova Scotia Supreme Court to have trial dates set on several arson charges stemming from firebombings dating back to fall of 2006. Andrew Jason Hudder, 21, faces charges for his alleged involvement in the same incidents.

Chief Justice Joseph Philip said the trial for both Halifax men will start next April 26 and run through May 7, 2010.

Jimmy Melvin Jr., was supposed to appear in court Thursday following his brother, but Halifax lawyer Josh Arnold instead appeared on his behalf.

The judge set next Jan. 25 through Feb. 1, 2010 as a trial by jury for the 27-year-old Melvin, who is facing one charge of conspiring to commit break and enter and two charges of breaking and entering, also dating back to fall 2006.
