Menino to hand out 600 free pedometers

As part of a plan to get the city in shape, Partners HealthCare, a local health and wellness organization, has donated 600 pedometers to local youth.

Mayor Thomas M. Menino and public health officials will present the pedometers at 1 p.m. tomorrow at BCYF Mildred Ave Community Center in Mattapan.

They mayor’s Boston Moves for Health initiative was set earlier this year with the goal of improving the health and wellness of the entire city.

The free pedometers are meant to help youth who participate in programs run by Boston Centers for Youth & Families keep track of their movement this summer.

Menino has challenged Bostonians to move ten million miles together, and the pedometers will allow Boston’s youth to contribute to the growing tally.
