Metro Minute with lawn elephant

Gather round, children, as we tell you the story of the giant white elephant and the front lawn.

From time immemorial (or roughly several human years), the yard at 77 Yarmouth Rd., just north of Christie Pits, has been home to a six-foot tusker.

The sculpture, a thesis project by OCAD student Matt Donovan, sat in his parents’ basement until he gave it away to his buddy, James Lawson.

On Halloweens past, Lawson — with a wonderful sense of humour — has attired his “pet” with an eye patch, hat, and swashbuckling sword.

Not as scary as those creepy garden gnomes, but definitely more fun.
