Mexico a top spot for weddings

With unprecedented travel deals out of Mexico and few local venues available in 2010, many Vancouver couples are planning to head for warmer climes to say their I dos.

Susie Meister, co-producer of the Vancouver Wedding Show on Sunday, said destination weddings are fast becoming an affordable alternative to a Vancouver wedding — where couples risk getting married in the rain.

“The big destination this year is Mexico,” said Meister, adding that the country is dropping prices to entice travellers back after the H1N1 outbreak last year.

She said couples can save money by combining their wedding and honeymoon destination into one.

“It’s affordable for young people to have a wedding there. It has a great climate and so many beautiful spots,” she said.

Meister said tropical attire — from beach-appropriate wedding dresses to colourful lingerie — will be showcased at the fair.

Wedding planners and experts will also be on hand to advise couples on how to plan destination weddings.
