Military protest bombs

A protest at the Defence Security and Aerospace Exhibition seemed to do little to dampen the spirits of attendees of the Lockheed Martin Hour of Cheer. Participants at the two-day conference gathered on a barge behind the Cunard Centre as the sun set over Halifax Harbour Thursday. Outside, about 10 members of the Halifax Peace Coalition protested what they call wasteful spending.

“Our money is being wasted on military procurement and (the) collusion that’s going on in there,” said Heidi Verheul.

“They think weapons, war, murder, mayhem, destruction (are) something to cheer about. So they’re having an hour of fun on the backs of profit made from the blood of innocents.”
