MLB to test for human growth hormone, testosterone

A day after the Baseball Writer’s Association of America decided that baseball’s “steroid era” would not be honored in the Hall of Fame with the announcement that they would not be electing any player to the Hall in 2013, Major League Baseball upped its drug testing once again.

MLB and the MLBPA reached an agreement Thursday to expand the sport’s drug program to include random in-season testing for human growth hormone and testosterone. MLB will be the first U.S. sports league to test for HGH.

“This agreement addresses critical drug issues and symbolizes Major League Baseball’s continued vigilance against synthetic human growth hormone, testosterone and other performance-enhancing substances,” commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement.
