As a director, Blaine Thurier isn’t quite as deft as he he is tweaking keyboards for The New Pornographers. A screwball farce like this requires equal measures of finesse and hopped-up energy, and unfortunately, this film only has too much of the latter. Still, this story of a reformed criminal who literally escapes his domestic prison for a night of illegal thrills has its moments — and the Vancouver views are wonderfully vivid.
