MRU celebrates a century of learning

With a big, blue mouth-full of one of Mount Royal University’s 100th-anniversary cupcakes, president Dave Marshall explained the importance of the centennial celebration.

“For starters, it’s just a good party,” Marshall joked.

Marshall, the outgoing president, saw the school through a transition to University.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to go through a period of transition at Mount Royal,” explained the outgoing president. “But it will never change its core and that core is taking care of students.”

President of the Students’ Union Robert Jones said the day of celebration represented the past, present and future of MRU.

“It really does recognize where Mount Royal has come from and really sticking with the principles of Mount Royal should be and is,” he said.

Former faculty member Mayor Naheed Nenshi said he has a lot tied up at the institution.

“One of the things I was a bit sad about in the election is that I wouldn’t be here celebrating the centennial with them everyday so I’m thrilled to have been able to be here today.”
