The weekend disruptions are needed to perform maintenance, and make improvements to the tracks, signaling systems and major upgrades to the communication lines along the entire 7 Train subway line. The MTA also plans to repair elevated portions of the subway line.

In 2016, the transit agency plans to finalize repairs and restoration of the Steinway Tunnel that was damaged during Superstorm Sandy.

According to the MTA, they will be mindful of the increase in ridership during the 2016 Lunar New Year in February and the Mets’ home game schedule and will provide extra service during those times.

During the service disruptions, customers will have to experience service diversions, station bypasses, and longer wait times. Free shuttle buses will be made available at Queensboro Plaza, Court Square, Hunters Point Avenue, and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Avenue.

Beginning Jan. 22, there will be weekend service shutdowns of the 7 line between Queensboro Plaza and Times Square in both directions from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

These service changes will be in effect on the following weekends:

  • January 22 – 25
  • March 18 – 21
  • April 1- 4
  • April 15 -18
  • Oct. 21- 24
  • Oct. 28 – 31
  • Nov. 11 – 14
  • Nov. 18 – 21
