NBA Ballers: Chosen One is pretty standard

NBA Ballers: Chosen One
Publisher: Midway
Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Rating: E – Everyone
Game type: Sports
Rating: *** 1/2 (out of five)

What’s the premise?

Find out if you’ve got what it takes to become the greatest baller on the streets as you create a character and enter the Chosen One tournament and take on some of the NBA’s best in one-on-one and two-on-two competitions.

This game is most similar to…?

NBA Ballers: Phenom.

Is it suitable for younger gamers?

The kind of nasty, off-the-hizzy moves that Chosen One requires are not likely something you’d like to see a young child pulling off in the playground, but the high-flying action will likely appeal to them.

One player or more?

Up to four can hit the court offline and two can hit it online.

The (not-so) secret to success is…?
You’ve got to trick it, before you kick it. Like most street basketball games, Chosen One requires more than just good shooting and rebounding to be successful. You’ll need to work on your trick moves if you want to earn the coveted title in this tournament.

What’s missing?
The controls to pull off many of the tricks are tough to master. A simpler control scheme would do wonders for this title.

And in the end?
Outside of some nice production, Chosen One is pretty standard streetball fare that doesn’t do much to advance the genre.
