NDP takes early lead in provincial poll

Darrell Dexter’s NDP has widened its lead and look set to form Nova Scotia’s new government, according to the latest poll by Corporate Research Associates.

The NDP came in at 37 per cent support in the poll released Tuesday, with the Liberals in second at 31 per cent and the Tories trailing at 28 per cent.

This is good news for the NDP and Liberals, who both edged away from the slipping Progressive Conservatives.

The NDP gained two percentage points from their March number of 36 per cent. The Liberals and Tories had been locked in a dead heat with 31 and 30 per cent support respectively.

Though the Liberals seem to have moved solidly into second place, the distance between them and the Tories is still within the margin of error. The poll is believed to be accurate within 3.9 percentage points 95 times out of 100.

The pollsters concluded it is “very likely” the NDP will form government based on their current popularity.
