Need a blow dry? There’s a bar for that

Growing up, internationally renowned hairstylist to the celebrities Marc Anthony never thought he’d be a stylist.

But when his father died when he was 16, he began working in the family’s salon to help his mother.

“Before I knew it, I was winning awards, travelling around the world and doing fashion shows with supermodels,” he said.

Anthony, who has styled the likes of Justin Bieber, model Coco Rocha, Paris Hilton, Fergie, Coldplay, Isla Fisher, Kate Bosworth, Blake Lively and America Ferrera for the Oscars, the Emmys and other red-carpet events, was in Ottawa yesterday to launch the first Marc Anthony Blow Dry Bar in Canada at the Murale store on Bank Street.

A blow dry bar offers blow drys and blow outs only, said Anthony.

“People are time-starved today,” said Anthony. “What better way to pamper yourself than to have your hair done?”

Ottawa is a great location for the blow dry bar, he said. Despite Ottawa’s reputation as a government town, “I think that women everywhere want to look beautiful,” he said. “It doesn’t matter where you are,” he said.

Even while flying all over the world, Anthony said he will always call Canada home.

“My roots are pretty grounded as a Canadian, living in Canada,” he said. “I’m pretty sure that’s where I’ll stay.”
