OTTAWA – More than a dozen new charges have been laid against a former Canadian navy medic who was convicted last fall of sexually assaulting a young recruit.
James Wilks, a former petty officer second class, faces four new counts of sexual assault and 10 counts of breach of trust for alleged acts committed while performing physical exams on Canadian Forces recruits and serving members.
The new allegations relate to medical exams performed between 2002 and 2009 at a naval reserve unit in Thunder Bay, Ont., and at the Canadian Forces recruiting centre in London, Ont.
Wilks, 51, was sentenced in December to nine months in jail on one count of sexual assault and four counts of breach of trust relating to crimes committed in London and Sarnia, Ont.
As part of his sentence, Wilks was added to the sex offender registry and ordered to provide DNA samples for the national databank.
The latest allegations surfaced after military police made a public appeal for other possible victims to step forward.
