On one hand, the New York Giants are talking Super Bowl, the 10-4 team poised for what appears to be a postseason berth. On the other hand, the thing they want to talk about the most is this week and playing at the Philadelphia Eagles.

That, they say, is first and foremost on their minds.

The Giants win on Sunday over the Detroit Lions has them apparently ready to snag a Wild Card spot, the first time the Giants will be in the postseason since 2011. But even beyond that, there’s already talk about the Super Bowl which the Giants last won…in 2011. It was the fourth Super Bowl for the franchise.

Defensive tackle Damon Harrison said that the goal of the defense isn’t to be the best in the league but rather to be on the best team in the league.

“That’s not our goal. Our goal is obviously to make it to the playoffs and put a fifth trophy in the case,” Harrison said. “If that comes with it, then fine. That’s just not something that’s talked about.”

But the Giants, even-keeled behind a somewhat bland head coach in Ben McAdoo and an equally static quarterback Eli Manning, won’t begin chomping publicly about the Super Bowl, not yet. Even if it is their goal and where they want to be by season’s end.

“That’s always the goal of every team. Each year the goal is to win a championship. That does not change,” Manning said. “That’s kind of the far goal. Each week you have kind of a near-sighted goal. Something on the game in performance, making improvements in your own play and the offense and defensive play. It’s ultimately to give yourself an opportunity to win a championship.”
