A series of photos showing the corpse of three-year-old Syrian refugee Aylan Kurdi flooded almost every channel of the social media sphere on Wednesday drawing shock and outrage.
The Independent reports that Kurdi was one of 12 refugees attempting to make their way across the Mediterranean before capsizing off the coast of Turkey.
“One of the boats was carrying six Syrians when it sank after leaving Akyarlar, in a desperate attempt to cross the 5km Aegean straight to Kos that represented their best chance of entering the EU,” The Independent writes. “According to Turkey’s Dogan news agency, three children and a woman from the small boat drowned. Two people survived after swimming back to shore in life jackets.”
The shocking pictures drew an immediate reaction from the internet with people across various channels expressing both remorse and outrage.
Aylan Al-Kurdi, you've reignited our humanity and exposed the Devils amongst us who have no humanity. pic.twitter.com/PH2OXH47b6— Antarah عَنتَرَة (@AManLikeMe) September 3, 2015

Why do you think David Cameron is refusing to do more to help children like Aylan al-Kurdi? @LBC from 10.— James O'Brien (@mrjamesob) September 3, 2015
