NFL MVP Odds: Patrick Mahomes is the early favorite to win MVP in 2024

The Kansas City Chiefs are becoming the next big dynasty in the NFL. Patrick Mahomes has helped guide the team to 3 Super Bowl rings as well as entrenching himself as the best quarterback in football by quite some distance. As expected, he’s the early favorite to win the only thing that alluded him last year – the MVP Award.

2024/5 NFL MVP Odds analysis

After being named the Super Bowl MVP just under a month ago, Patrick Mahomes leads the charge in the 2024/5 MVP odds. A 3-time Super Bowl winner and 2-time MVP, Mahomes is in a class of his own at this point, although his regular-season performances in 2023 were not enough to earn him a third MVP award, something he will be keen to put right this season.

As far as the chasing pack goes, there could be some early value on Lamar Jackson, who is of course the reigning MVP. The Ravens should have really beaten the Chiefs in the AFC Championship but came up short. They boast one of the most dominant rosters in Football and Jackson has proven again and again that he is one of the best at the quarterback position. Although winning back-to-back MVP’s is a rarity (only happened on six occasions), there is every reason to believe that Jackson and the Ravens will only get better as time goes on.

Justin Herbert is another name that should also command a few early bets. With Jim Harbaugh filling the Head Coach role in Los Angeles, the Chargers will be among the early favorites to emerge out of the AFC Trenches and into the Super Bowl picture. If Harbaugh can get the most out of what is already a pretty talented roster, there’s every chance that the former Offensive Rookie of the Year can make a case to be named MVP in 2024.

Another wildcard bet

There is also a lot of surprising value on Jalen Hurts. Even in a ‘down year’, Hurts still ranked 13th in QBR, had 15 rushing touchdowns, threw for 3,858 yards. While the turnovers could be reduced, the Eagles were a 10-win team and genuine NFC Championship favorites before the wheels fell off. The offense is bringing back all of its most valuable components in 2024 and with Kellen Moore calling the offensive shots, the Eagles could be looking to finish the story next season.
