1. Seahawks (2-0): There’s a new No. 1 after Seattle pummeled the 49ers and the best defense in football — that’s not opinion, ‘Hawks rank first in takeaways/giveaways, first in total defense and teams are averaging five points per game against them — made Colin Kaepernick look human. Richard Sherman is angry, too. You won’t like Richard Sherman when he’s angry.
2. Broncos (2-0): Peyton Manning looks like a man possessed, and he has all the weapons to run the table — monitor the Ryan Clady injury, though.
3. 49ers (1-1): San Francisco bounces back this week. No one, absolutely no one, can win in the Pacific Northwest. They must secure homefield in the playoffs.
4. Falcons (1-1): Super Bowl contenders if they can learn how to play all four quarters and close out games. Outscored 31-14 in second halves.
5. Texans (2-0): Echo what we said last week, the progression of Matt Schaub and the passing game makes them extra dangerous. Kings of the comeback.
6. Packers (1-1): It really depends on the matchup with the Pack. Impossible score more points than them, but that defense is very soft.
7. Patriots (2-0): They could be the worst 2-0 team in football and Tom Brady looks extremely frustrated with his rookie receivers.
8. Bengals (1-1): If Guovani Bernard starts making plays like he did Monday night … watch out. Added dimension to already explosive offense.
9. Saints (2-0): Not even a lightning storm can slow Drew Brees and Co. New Orleans is back to its old tricks, dominating time of possession at 33:54 per game.
10. Bears (1-1): This is a very talented offense and they probably should have routed the Vikes. Jay Cutler has to limit his mistakes.
11. Chiefs (2-0): We knew the defense was stacked. Now Andy Reid is using Jamaal Charles like he did Brian Westbrook in Philly.
12. Dolphins (2-0): Is Ryan Tannehill (23-of-34, 319 yards, one TD) a real franchise quarterback? We’re starting to buy in. New vibe in South Beach.
13. Ravens (1-1): Going through growing pains after losing so many veteran leaders. Still get the feeling they’ll be there in January — it’s going to time to full gel.
14. Chargers (1-1): Philip Rivers looked like his old self last week, better yet, an MVP candidate. Of course, he was playing a dismal dismal defense.
15. Eagles (1-1): They are who we thought they were. A team with a dynamic, high-scoring offense and a defense that can’t stop a squirrel.
16. Colts (1-1): Indy didn’t skip a beat without RB Vick Ballard. However, they need a more consistent pass-rush. All in all, very good team.
17. Cowboys (1-1): While Monte Kiffin’s defense is thriving as ball hawks (six takeaways, +3), they are bleeding yardage (395.5 per game). Trade one good for one evil.
18. Titans (1-1): The Titans can control games at the line of scrimmage — until Jake Locker takes the next step, they’re stuck in neutral.
19. Lions (1-1): We’re keeping them here for now, but the loss of Reggie Bush is HUGE. Runners not named Reggie Bush had just 24 yards.
20. Rams (1-1): Sam Bradford is starting to look like the Offensive Rookie Player of the Year he was, especially in that no-huddle attack.
21. Redskins (0-2): There’s some optimism on offense, with RG3 and Alfred Morris … losing Brandon Meriweather could spell doom for an atrocious secondary.
22. Cardinals (1-1): Don’t sleep on the Cards, with the sixth-best offense in football averaging 24.5 points per game.
23. Vikings (0-2): This one writes itself. Teams will continue to stack the box until Christian Ponder can prove he’s a legit NFL quarterback.
24. Giants (0-2): Brandon Jacobs wasn’t the answer. They need a miracle right now. Luckily, they play in a very weak NFC East.
25. Steelers (0-2): Pittsburgh can’t even rely on its defense anymore, say it ain’t so. No takeaways and one sack through two games.
