Calgary police have charged nine people in connection with yesterday’s publicity stunt by Greenpeace protestors.
Protestors rappelled from the Calgary Tower yesterday morning causing chaos in the downtown core – and they unfurled an anti-oil banner from the city landmark.
Investigators now believe the protesters entered the base of the Calgary Tower through a ground-level emergency exit that was opened from the inside by other protesters, police said. This allowed them to enter the elevators undetected, with their climbing gear in hand, according to police.
The group then rode the elevator to the observation level where they were able to open a window that allowed them to access the catwalk of the tower, and according to police, from there they attached their climbing gear and rappelled from the tower.
Eight people were taken into custody after the incident, and another was arrested last night.
The following individuals are charged with one count each of breaking out and mischief to property under $5,000, according to a police release:

All have been released with conditions, police said.
