No more mercy for parkers

At least 180 tickets were given out to vehicles parked on urban streets early Thursday morning.

The overnight winter parking ban started just after midnight on Wednesday, but HRM gave motorists a break on the first night. However, Shaune MacKinlay, HRM spokeswoman, said at least 182 tickets were handed out during the second night of the ban.

MacKinlay said they know how many tickets given out by parking patrol contractors on early Thursday morning, but not how many police gave out.

Any vehicles parked on the street between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. are subject to a $50 ticket. Last year, about 200 tickets were given out on the first night of the ban.
