While other people sleep, Slaine keeps grinding away, working on his music, contemplating movie roles and touring whenever possible.
That is just how he is wired, says the Boston emcee.
“I always have my eye on the future, it’s survival for me,” says Slaine. “I have gotten where I am right now because I outwork everybody. I don’t stop.”
On Tuesday, Slaine’s debut solo album “A World With No Skies 2.0” dropped, a year after the original album stalled because of sample clearing issues.
When it ran into roadblocks last summer, the rapper started releasing free mix-tapes for fans.
But with his new album finally out, he says the 2.0-version “takes things to another level.”
“The record is way different,” he says. “It has a substance.”
Slaine had to reinterpret the concept after going through a divorce and other struggles that weren’t reflected in the original. The original was boom-bap whereas on 2.0 he brought in musicians, guitar players and violinists and pianists, creating a sound that is epic and dramatic.
He hits the Middle East stage in Cambridge Aug. 20 to celebrate the release of his album, followed by in-store appearances in Philly later in the week.
But that’s not all.
Notable for his roles in two Ben Affleck films, Slaine recently did work alongside Brad Pitt and Ray Liotta in a mob-style movie set to hit screens in March.
“My time is right now,” he says. “I’ve been working to get here my whole life.”
