A Nor’easter is expected to bring between 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain to eastern Massachusetts starting Tuesday.

Winds are expected to be between 20 and 30 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 45 miles per hour. There could be some ocean effect snow Monday during the day, but Kim Buttrick, a meteorologist at the Taunton-based National Weather Service, expects the snow to turn into rain on Tuesday.

Wind and rain from the storm is expected to continue into Wednesday. Areas west of I-495 could see three inches of snow, said Buttrick.

The wind, as well as high tides thanks to the recent full moon, could mean that low-lying coastal areas could be flooded.

“Tides are astronomically high to be begin with,” said Buttrick. “Easterly winds piling up the water along the coasts.”
