Nova Scotia gives $100,000 to Red Cross to help with Haiti relief mission

HALIFAX, N.S. – The Nova Scotia government is contributing $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help with the relief effort in Haiti.

Premier Darrell Dexter says people in the earthquake-stricken nation are in desperate need of essentials including food, water and medical supplies.

Dexter adds he is deeply saddened by the disaster.

The province is also calling on businesses, unions and others to pledge support to relief organizations.

Meanwhile, the federal government is co-ordinating a substantial relief mission.
