Police are searching for a driver who allegedly ignored a stop sign and caused a crash that left one woman dead and others badly injured, including the deceased’s 9-year-old daughter.

Just after 5 p.m. on Sunday, police arrived at the corner of 115th Avenue and 130th Street in South Ozone Park, where they found multiple victims who had been injured in a car crash, police reported. The driver of the vehicle that had apparently caused the crash had fled the scene on foot.

Authorities’ preliminary investigation determined that the driver of a BMW SUV ignored a stop sign then struck a Toyota sedan carrying four passengers before slamming into three parked cars, officials stated. The two rear passengers in the sedan, Zaalika Rasool, 40, and her 9-year-old daughter, were ejected from the car, and Rasool was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities stated.

“It was the worst thing I’ve seen,”witness Vejai Gajai told the New York Daily News. “It didn’t sound like a car accident, it sounded like a bomb.”

Two men, 71 and 47, who had been sitting in the front of the sedan, were taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital along with the 9-year-old, who was listed in critical condition, police added.

The BMW’s driver fled the scene on foot, police determined, adding that a male passenger, 46, was removed from that vehicle and taken to Jamaica Hospital.
