Mayor Mike Bloomberg went to Zuccotti Park this evening to personally inform the protesters that on Friday morning the park will get scrubbed down.
The last three weeks have made the park unsanitary, said the mayor, and Brookfield Properties, the park’s owner, is eager to clean the square. Cleaning will be done in stages and protesters will be allowed to return once it’s done.
And NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said Thursday morning that protesters will be allowed back into the park, but their sleeping bags, tents, cooler and blankets will not.
“People will have to remove all their belongings and leave the park,” Kelly said. “After it’s cleaned, they’ll be able
to come back. But they won’t be able to bring back the gear, the
sleeping bags, that sort of thing will not be able to be brought back
into the park.”
Power-washing the park will begin at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning, but some protesters are already vowing they won’t leave.
