Everyone succumbs to ordering pizza once in a while, and everyone has their favourite go-to places. Mine is tucked between a shawarma place and a sex shop in the Beltline.
Family-run Vogglio D’Pizza turns out magnificent thin-crust pizzas, dominated by fresh toppings and not strangled by cheese.
They offer standard pepperoni and Hawaiian pizzas, but try branching out to appreciate what Vogglio does best.
The Fantasia ($14.99 small) is a mouth-watering pie of shredded beef, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, green peppers and baby shrimp.
The Mexicana ($15.99 small) is awfully dubious on paper, but a subtle red bean sauce instead of soggy tomato sauce transforms this experiment into a success. It comes with ground beef, tomatoes, crushed tortilla chips, lettuce, jalapenos and fresh avocado slices.
The owner made pizzas for 15 years in Colombia where fruit toppings are popular.
Try a Golosa ($6.99 personal size) with guava paste and mozzarella, or a Fruit Festival pizza ($8.49 personal) loaded with apples, pineapple, peach, cherry and pear.
Vogglio has a narrow ledge to eat at, but take out is your best option. Two small pizzas usually suffice for me and my husband, with several pieces left over for breakfast.
