On the way to Baltimore

The Tufts men’s lacrosse team will go for its second straight NCAA Division III national championship Sunday, when it meets Salisbury (Md.) at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

They’ll head south after tonight’s practice at Gillette Stadium — designed to get the Jumbos accustomed to playing in a massive facility under the lights.

“Our guys don’t play in NFL football stadiums very often,” coach Mike Daly said. “It’s very different … It’s the size of it; the backgrounds. It’s a completely different venue. I think the field at Tufts holds about 500 people.”

M&T Bank Stadium, where the Ravens play, holds 71,000.

This year, of course, Tufts doesn’t have to deal with the title game being a “new” experience. They beat the very same opponent, Salisbury, 9-6 last year.

The trip definitely seems easier the second time around.

“There’s tons of administrative things that snuck up on us last year that really aren’t sneaking up on us as much,” Daly said.
