Mayflower skips Ian Fitzner-LeBlanc and Jamie Murphy are the only unbeaten teams at the Molson Tankard and face each other on Friday in a showdown for a playoff spot.
Fitzner-LeBlanc, a finalist last year, earned a pair of wins at the Nova Scotia men’s curling championship at the Mayflower Curling Club on Thursday, defeating unaffiliated Chris Sutherland 9-4 and Mayflower’s Brent MacDougall 8-4. His rink features Stuart MacLean, Kent Smith and Philip Crowell.
Murphy, along with Jordan Pinder, Jon Wamback and Donald Macdermaid, beat Mayflower’s Doug MacKenzie 9-4 to improve upon his 2-0 record from opening day.
MacKenzie and Sutherland are 2-1.
Top seed Shawn Adams, a three-time Tankard winner from Mayflower, lost 6-5 to Mark Kehoe on Thursday to fall to 1-2, while defending champion Mark Dacey, has the same record after splitting a pair of games Thursday.
The 16-team event qualifies four teams for the Page playoffs. The semifinal is Sunday at 9 a.m. with the championship following at 2 p.m. The winner gets Nova Scotia’s spot at next month’s Tim Hortons Brier at the Metro Centre.
