Panhandler union rep to run for council

After years of fighting city hall, Ottawa Panhandlers Union spokesman Andrew Nellis is taking a new approach.

Nellis will be registering to run for city council in Rideau-Vanier Ward later this week.

The current councillor, Georges Bedard, has not yet registered for the race, but is expected to run again.

Telecom hardware designer Aaron Helleman has launched his campaign to replace Peggy Feltmate in Kanata South. There are now four candidates registered in the ward. Feltmate is not running again.

Joseph King is taking another run at the council seat in Barrhaven. King came in second with 11.6 per cent of the vote in a rout by Jan Harder in the 2006 election. Harder has not registered yet, but is expected to seek re-election.
