A wall of water greeted joggers and cyclists in Yaletown’s David Lam Park yesterday as the city showed how “pumped” it is for the Winter Olympics.
At just after 11:30 a.m., city engineers fired up a massive saltwater fire pump, spraying water 50 metres over False Creek.
The wall of water, jazzed up with lasers, coloured lights and projected images, will be a common sight during the Games, said Dave Rudberg, Vancouver’s general manager of Olympics operations.
“It’s a way to create memories about the Games,” said Rudberg. “It’s one of those images that will last in peoples’ minds for residents and visitors alike long after the Games are over.”
David Lam Park is one of the city’s two free “live sites.” During the Games it will feature live entertainment and screens with broadcasts of Olympic events.
