Terry Gilliam may’ve found a way to get around the fact that his lead actor, Heath Ledger, tragically passed away in the middle of production, but “Dr. Parnassus” suffers from his absence anyway. And no one wants to say that, but it’s true.
Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell step in when Ledger’s character enters the “imaginarium” — a world of the mind built from the imagination. And although it’s an incredible place with the whimsical logic of a “Tom and Jerry” cartoon, given that so much of the action takes place inside this odd world, it becomes difficult to emotionally invest.
