Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is rehabbing at the Patriots training facilities in Foxboro and “looks good,” according to ESPN, but it is still unclear if he will be ready to play against the Buffalo Bills in the regular season opener on Sept. 8.

Gronkowski had surgery on his back in June and had a fourth surgery on his left forearm in May.

The Patriots tight end corps is depleted with Gronkowski likely to be placed on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp on July 25 and with Aaron Hernandez having been released by the team following his arrest.

Jake Ballard, Michael Hoomanawanui and Daniel Fells will likely see the most reps at the tight end position when camp begins. Nevada rookie Zach Sudfeld has Gronkowski-like frame and hauled in 45 receptions for 598 yards and 6 touchdowns in his final season for the Wolf Pack.
