Alleged mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger liked to take walks “for the fresh air and exercise” his righthand man testified Monday.
But there was also another important reason Bulger liked to be walking outside and not in an enclosed space.
“We talked outside so we wouldn’t be intercepted by law enforcement,” said Kevin Weeks, Bulger’s former righthand man in the Winter Hill Gang.
Weeks testified Monday against his former mob boss. During that testimony, federal prosecutors introduced multiple surveillance photographs of Bulger with Weeks and fellow mobster Stephen Flemmi.
The group stayed mainly in South Boston and took many walks around Castle Island.
Weeks testified Monday that the group knew they were under surveillance so they got lawn chairs and took them to the middle of the park to discuss business.
