Playing the Field: NC State student storms the court in a wheelchair

Yesterday was a glorious day because No. 1 Duke basketball was upset. It doesn’t really matter who did it, because we’re all just happy that Evil Empire was knocked off.

But in the interest of news reporting, the team to knock them off was N.C. State. And since they were playing in Raleigh, N.C. the fans bum rushed the court. The first person leading the way was a student in a wheelchair, being pushed by the student body president.

Cool idea on paper. Not a great idea in practice.

The student, named Will Privette, was knocked out of his wheelchair by a mass of student behind him.

Luckily, Wolfpack forward C.J. Leslie helped Privette from being trampled — a great job by one of the top players in the country. Who says athletes are all self-absorbed?

“It was the dumbest thing I’ve done in college, but it was awesome,” Privette told USA Today.

Hey, that just about sums up college for all of us!
