A white jumpsuit-clad Martin Weigelt was at the centre of a VPD controversy in January that involved this trophy photo. He was arrested again Saturday.

The man in Vancouver police’s controversial “trophy photo” has been arrested again, police announced yesterday, after he was spotted Downtown riding a bicycle and wearing a wig.

Martin James Weigelt achieved minor notoriety in January after officers arrested him and took a photo of him wearing a white jumpsuit. At the time, Weigelt had been arrested two days prior to the photo for drug trafficking.

Chief Const. Jamie Graham said his officers were probably proud “in a bizarre way” of capturing the longtime offender.

The photo drew harsh criticism and resulted in the suspension of two officers.

Police spokesman Const. Tim Fanning called Weigelt a “frequent flyer” repeat offender who is active in commercial break-ins and dealing drugs.

He said police have had almost 200 encounters with him in the past year.

He was arrested again Saturday after an officer saw him riding a bike without a helmet. He was wearing a wig and attempted to flee police on his bike.

When he was eventually picked up, officers found a number of tools, including bolt cutters, screwdrivers, and a can of butane.
