Police briefs: Rideau Valley Drive shooting, convenience store robbery and driving charges

A 71-year-old male is in police custody following a shooting in the city’s rural south end Sunday night. At 8:49 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 7000 block of Rideau Valley Drive. A 49-year-old male was transported to the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The investigation is continuing.

Police are seeking an English-speaking male in his mid 20s after a Quickie store was robbed Sunday night. At 9 p.m., a man wearing a mask and armed with a knife entered the store at 119 Mann Ave. The suspect approached the store clerk and demanded money and fled on foot with cigarettes.

Ottawa police laid 258 charges for tailgating and stop sign running last month. The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program issued 46 tickets to drivers following the vehicle ahead too closely and 212 charges through the stop sign running initiative.
