Police charge over 450 people with seatbelt and safety infractions

In a one-week span, Ottawa Ontario Provincial Police charged 446 people with failing to wear their seatbelts.

In an initiative to increase safety and seatbelt awareness, officers checked 11,091 vehicles since April 15.

Another 22 drivers were charged for failing to ensure that their child was secured properly.

So far, 125 infant and child and booster seats have been inspected at various ramps of Highway 417. Five car seats were seized following these inspections.

“The purpose of this initiative is to increase community awareness and improve the safety of as many children possible,” said Deanna Lindsay, executive director for SEATS for Kids Coalition.
