Police find a surprise in the freezer

A 52-year-old Dartmouth man was in provincial court Thursday after police say drugs, illegal cigarettes and moose meat were seized from a home in Upper Sackville.

Halifax RCMP say they executed a search warrant Wednesday at the home on Sackville Drive and found 159 marijuana plants, 1,012 grams of marijuana, illegal cigarettes, drug paraphernalia, cash and hundreds of pounds of moose meat. Police spokesperson Cpl. Joe Taplin said the moose meat was in home’s freezer.

He said officers called in the province’s Department of Natural Resources because of the sheer quantity of meat.

Taplin said it’s “very uncommon for us inside city limits to come across anything like that.”

The man was facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, production of marijuana and possession of illegal cigarettes under the excise and revenue act.

Police say natural resources is investigating the illegal possession of moose meat.
