Police honour fallen comrades

Hundreds of police officers from all over Ontario joined bereaved families and friends yesterday at a Queen’s Park gathering to honour colleagues killed in the line of duty.

Those at the memorial event, now in its ninth year, saw three names added to the Wall of Honour.
Posthumous tribute was paid to rookie traffic officer Leigh Metcalfe, who died in 1927 in a head-on collision near Beamsville while patrolling on his motorcycle.

Toronto Const. Edward McMaster was also killed on his motorcycle, struck when a delivery truck ran an intersection in 1935.

The third honouree held direct memories for many present. York Region Det.-Const. Robert Plunkett, a 22-year veteran, was killed on undercover duty in August 2007.
