Ten charges have been laid against the woman shot by police in Gibsons.
Linda Howe, 40, is accused of shooting at four workers, seriously injuring one.
Cpl. Peter Thiessen said Howe had a handgun and a shotgun when police arrived at the Good Samaritan Canada Christensen Village Care Home on Tuesday afternoon.
The three officers asked Howe, who was said to be carjacking someone at gun point, to stop. After not responding to their orders, police said, she was shot.
“On the basis of the female’s actions with respect to the handgun, one of the members discharged his firearm,” Thiessen said, adding Howe was hit at least once.
Police said the first shot was fired when staff went into Howe’s room to evict her.
“Immediately after opening the door, one of the male employees was shot by the suspect,” Thiessen said.
Howe and building manager Ken Perrier remain in serious condition at Vancouver General Hospital.
A friend told CBC News that Howe is a Gulf War veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder. According to David Croal, the woman also suffered a head injury after being hit by a car.
