Police nab man after 20 auto break-ins

A 26-year-old is facing almost 60 charges after police allegedly caught him breaking into vehicles at the Laurier Park off-leash area Tuesday.

While police watched the parking lot at the off-leash park, they say they witnessed the suspect breaking into a parked car and attempting to flee before police arrested him.

Police have connected the suspect to more than 20 thefts from vehicles since the beginning of April.

“Due to police observation and community concern police conducted surveillance which ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect,” said Const. Meagan Maze.

“Police just want to remind people to keep their valuables at home and not in their vehicles even though the suspect was charged and arrested.”

After arresting the suspect, police obtained a search warrant for his vehicle and found numerous stolen purses, IDs and personal cheques in the trunk.

“I think a lot of people think it’s not going to happen to them and they think that hiding their purse under the seat is good enough,” Maze said.

“But it’s not as the suspect or other people may be watching in the area.”

Anthony Hovida Pachao, 26, has been charged with 58 offences. More charges may be laid as information comes forward.
