Police offer tips on home safety

An Eastwood home was the focus yesterday of a police tour highlighting the do’s and don’t when it comes to home safety.

Everything from motion lights, what deadbolts to use and simple things like shutting the windows and doors were discussed as Const. Mike Russell explained the steps to making homes as safe as possible from home invasion.

“We try to think, as a bad guy, how would I get into this house?” he said. “If the door is shut, the house is locked up and the alarm [sticker] is up there criminals will think [otherwise].”

Even tips like trimming the bushes and the bottom of trees helps as it eliminates blind spots so homeowners and neighbours alike could see if anyone was sneaking around Russell said.

Over the course of this week, police will also be demonstrating proper auto theft prevention, personal safety tips and seniors safety.
