Police on hunt for sex predator

Police are still on the trail of a man believed to be responsible for attacks on downtown women, as more near-victims reveal themselves.

“I was minding my own business when he rolled up beside me and asked me if I wanted a ride and if I was single,” the young woman who asked to remain anonymous said. “I said ‘no,’ started walking and he drove really slow behind me.”

Though the man began to shout lewd remarks and coaxed her to get in his pickup truck on 50 Street near 137 Avenue Monday afternoon, she said red flags weren’t raised until she read his carbon-copy description in Thursday’s Metro.

“When I read the paper, I thought ‘oh my God,’” she said.

She described the suspect as sporting a baseball hat with a mullet underneath, glasses and a moustache.

Police are seeking a man of similar description who offered two women a ride in separate incidents. Both were taken to a south-side industrial area and attacked.

Edmonton Police Services sexual assault unit Staff Sgt. Brian Readman confirmed yesterday the first two victims were not sex trade workers, and believe there are more victims.
