Halifax’s Adrienne Power was named Sport Nova Scotia’s female individual athlete of the year at the 14th annual Ricoh Sport Awards at the World Trade and Convention Centre on Saturday.
Power, a sprinter who attended the Beijing Olypmics and is a former Dalhousie Tigers star, won national titles in the 100- and 200-metre events in 2009 and placed 25th among 44 competitors in the 200 at the world championships.
Bridgewater’s Mattias Wolter, a steeplechase athlete, was the male individual winner.
Dartmouth’s Andrew Russell, a canoeist who raced for Canada at the world sprint championships on Lake Banook last year, was named the male team athlete of the year. Baddeck hockey standout Jessica Wong took the female team honour.
The Dartmouth canoe duo of Jenna Marks and Maria Halavrezos won team of the year after combining to claim a pair of gold medals in exhibition events at the world sprint championships.
