1 Help wanted — Speculation exists that the Rangers are interested in adding Sheldon Souray, Bryan McCabe or Tomas Kaberle at the trade deadline to bolster the power play. John Tortorella is looking for a heavy point shot that will open up ice for the forwards. And boy do the Rangers need it. They went 0-for-5 on the power play last night and have scored just one goal in their last 40 power plays. Brandon Dubinsky’s goal cut the deficit to 3-2 late in the third, but the Blueshirts couldn’t tie despite ending the game on the man-advantage.

2 Spread your Wings — Mike Babcock wasn’t thrilled with his team or its start. The Red Wings’ coach made that point clear during a mid-first period interview, calling out his troops, who were on the verge of being shut out in three consecutive home games for the first time in franchise history. The Wings responded by playing their patented left-wing lock to slow the Rangers forecheck and took a 1-0 lead late in the second when Pavel Datsyuk scored in his return from a broken right hand.

3 Decent enough —Despite being charged with two losses in three days, Martin Biron has been solid in net. The three goals Biron allowed against the high-powered Wings were all from within 10 feet. He was even inching toward a win when Derek Stepan tied the game early in the third, but Jiri Hudler found the net less than two minutes later to reclaim the lead.
